Amazon Fire TV Gets Free Alexa Plus Upgrade
Amazon's premium Alexa AI assistant is now free for all Fire TV users in the US, offering conversational search and smart home controls.

The update
Amazon is rolling out Alexa Plus to all compatible Fire TV devices in the US for free, regardless of whether users have a Prime subscription. The upgrade brings conversational AI capabilities to Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, Amazon Ember smart TVs, and other compatible TVs including those from Panasonic and Hisense. Previously, Alexa Plus cost $19.99 per month for non-Prime members.
Why it matters
This move represents Amazon’s strategic push to accelerate AI adoption in living rooms. Alexa Plus can understand natural language rather than requiring specific keywords, allowing users to ask for movie recommendations based on themes, moods, or preferences. The AI assistant can also control smart home devices, display camera feeds on TV, and provide context about content being watched. Amazon reports that users with Alexa Plus have nearly twice as many conversations as they did with the original Alexa.
What to watch
Whether Amazon will expand this free offering to international markets beyond the current US availability. How competitors like Google and Roku will respond to this aggressive pricing model. If Amazon will eventually make Alexa Plus free across all its devices, not just Fire TV.
