Aisha Wahab Wins Special Election to Fill Swalwell’s Seat
Aisha Wahab wins special election to serve out remainder of Eric Swalwell's term in California's 14th Congressional District.

The update
State Sen. Aisha Wahab (D) has won the special election to serve out the remainder of former Rep. Eric Swalwell’s term in California’s 14th Congressional District. The Associated Projects Wahab’s victory over Bay Area Rapid Transit Board President Melissa Hernandez.
Why it matters
Wahab’s win fills the seat left vacant after Swalwell resigned in April following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct. The special election attracted significant outside spending, with over $4 million poured into the race since last month, including $1.2 million from an AIPAC-backed super PAC supporting Hernandez.
What to watch
The same candidates will face each other again in November to decide who will serve the next full term beginning January 2027. The November race will take place in a redrawn district that includes 26,000 more voters.
