Kingdom Hearts Anime Official: Nomura Teases Direct Involvement
Kingdom Hearts is getting an official anime series. Creator Tetsuya Nomura confirms production and hints at his direct role.

The update
Kingdom Hearts is officially getting an animated series. The announcement came during the D23 Entertainment Showcase, revealing a project set for Disney+ and Disney Channel. Tetsuya Nomura, the series’ creator, has now broken his silence on the project. In a message shared on X, Nomura confirmed the series is in production. He stated he has been consulting with the scenario and art teams, even creating new character designs for the project. However, he is keeping the specifics vague.
“I cannot say anything more at this moment, but the single piece of key art released serves as a hint,” Nomura said. He concluded with a direct instruction to fans: “Please let your imaginations run wild as you await further updates.”
Why it matters
This marks the first time Disney has formally partnered with Nomura’s team for a direct animated adaptation. While spin-offs exist, this is the most significant marriage between the franchise and the House of Mouse since the series’ inception. The project is an original story, not an adaptation of the existing games.
What to watch
Fans are currently debating the potential direction of the series based on the vague key art showing a barbarian-style keyblade wielder. No official release date or studio has been announced yet.
