Three Bodies Found at Kraków Gunman’s Home After Six Killed in Market Square Shooting

Three more people were found dead at the Kraków gunman's home after six people were killed in the market square shooting on Saturday.

The update

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said three bodies, two women and one man, were found at the gunman’s home when police searched it after Saturday’s attack in Kraków. The discovery follows the shooting in Main Market Square, where six people, four women and two men, including a British national, were killed shortly before 15:00 local time. Sixteen people, including two police officers and five foreigners, were taken to hospital; one officer, shot three times, is in a very critical condition.

Why it matters

The discovery raises to nine the number of people found dead in connection with the attack and suggests the violence may have begun before the square shooting, although authorities have not confirmed when or how the three died. Poland’s interior minister said early findings indicate the suspect, a 25-year-old Polish man, was inspired by far-right ideologies and held ultra-nationalist views. The gunman fired at random people from his car before officers shot and arrested him.

What to watch

Investigators, supported by counter-terrorism police, are continuing to search the home and examine the suspect’s background and weapons. Officials are expected to confirm the identities of the three people found there and of two square victims not yet identified. Tusk was travelling to Kraków and was expected to address the attack later on Saturday.
