Google Launches Nano Banana 2 Lite: Fast, Cheap, AI Images
Google’s new Nano Banana 2 Lite model generates images in seconds at a fraction of the cost of previous tools, aiming to change how creators work.

The update
Google has released Nano Banana 2 Lite, a new image generation model. The company positions the tool as a replacement for its legacy Nano Banana model. It is available through Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform.
Why it matters
The model prioritizes speed and affordability. Google claims it produces images in about four seconds, compared to roughly 20 seconds for previous versions. The cost is approximately $0.034 per 1,000 images. This pricing is half that of the previous Nano Banana 2 model. Google describes the Lite version as a “generalist workhorse” for high-volume workflows.
What to watch
While the model is fast, it may not handle complex tasks as well as the company’s more powerful tools. Google notes that the Lite version can struggle with text and infographics. Users may also see inconsistencies in character details. The release follows Google’s wider rollout of the Gemini Omni Flash video model and a new demo app for e-commerce video creation.
