Apple Unveils First Foldable iPhone Duo

Apple introduces iPhone Duo, its first foldable device with 7.6-inch inner display and 5.4-inch outer display starting at $1,999.

The update

Apple announced the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, featuring a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. The device starts at $1,999 for 256GB and will be available in October. Unlike competitors’ vertical designs, Apple adopted a wider form factor for better video viewing. The iPhone Duo uses a custom nanotexture finish to minimize the crease and reduce glare, with a hinge made from grade 5 aluminum and over 100 components. It’s powered by the new A20 Pro chip and C2 model, with Touch ID as the primary authentication method.

Why it matters

Apple’s entry into the foldable market represents a significant strategic shift after years of resisting this trend. The iPhone Duo’s wider form factor and premium pricing position it as a high-end alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. Apple’s approach focuses on media consumption and multitasking capabilities, with features like split-view functionality and the ability to use the Apple Pencil on either display. This move could accelerate mainstream adoption of foldable technology in the premium smartphone market.

What to watch

Preorders begin October 16 with availability October 23. The device will be tested for durability claims, including the custom hinge design and nanotexture finish. Market reception will be evaluated against the $1,999 price point and Apple’s claim of 31 hours of video playback on the inner display.
