Jets’ Johnson Joins Aston Martin F1 Board

Woody Johnson, owner of the New York Jets, has bought a minority stake in Aston Martin Aramco and joined the team's board.

The update

New York Jets chairman Woody Johnson has acquired a minority stake in the Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 team and will join the company’s board of directors as vice chairman, the team announced Thursday.

Johnson’s focus will be on the team’s commercial growth, particularly in the United States. He will not undertake any day-to-day management duties.

Why it matters

This move connects two of the world’s most valuable sports franchises. Johnson owns the NFL’s New York Jets and previously acquired a 43% stake in Premier League club Crystal Palace. His appointment to the Aston Martin board signals a growing trend of crossover investment between American football and international motorsports.

What to watch

Johnson has a history with the United Kingdom, serving as U.S. Ambassador there. He has expressed a commitment to growing Formula 1’s fanbase in the U.S., a market the sport is actively targeting for expansion.
