Chargers Center Biadasz Out Indefinitely with ACL Damage

Chargers' $30M center suffers ACL damage in joint practice; rookie Jake Slaughter steps in.

The update

Los Angeles Chargers center Tyler Biadasz will miss the remainder of the season after suffering ACL damage and additional injuries to his left knee during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers. Biadasz was carted off the field and could not put weight on the leg. The team announced he is out indefinitely as he consults with doctors.

Why it matters

Biadasz was the Chargers’ first major free agency signing this offseason, landing a three-year, $30 million deal to fix a porous offensive line. He was expected to be the anchor of the unit, replacing Bradley Bozeman. The Chargers have already dealt with injuries to left tackle Rashawn Slater and right tackle Joe Alt this summer. Now, the team must rely on second-round rookie Jake Slaughter to lead the interior line.

What to watch

How the Chargers adjust their offensive scheme without their veteran center. Mike McDaniel’s system relies heavily on pre-snap motion and sync between the quarterback and center. The team will also need to monitor Biadasz’s recovery timeline and the performance of the rookie replacement.
