Ubisoft Brings Back Single-Player Rainbow Six With Turn-Based Tactics

Ubisoft ends an 18-year single-player drought with a new turn-based strategy game launching in 2027.

The update

Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Tactics, a new entry in the franchise that will be the first single-player game in the series since 2008’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The game is a turn-based tactics title revealed during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live. It features isometric gameplay where players coordinate a squad of military operators. The title is set for a 2027 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Why it matters

This marks a significant shift for the franchise. For over a decade, Rainbow Six Siege has been the face of the series, a live-service multiplayer shooter. Tactics returns the series to its roots as a single-player narrative experience with a heavy emphasis on tactics. The move comes as Ubisoft looks to diversify its portfolio, following the recent success of the Mario + Rabbids series.

What to watch

Developers have confirmed 15 different operator classes, each with unique gadgets and weapons. The game will feature 47 handcrafted maps and 90 minutes of cutscenes. It will take place in the existing Rainbow Six universe during the collapse of the organization between Siege‘s 10th and 11th years. Players will command operators from afar, similar to the breach planning feature in the original PC classic.
