Deutsche Bank Eyes Institutional Crypto Custody
Germany's largest bank awaits regulatory approval to launch institutional custody for Bitcoin, Ether and select stablecoins.

The update
Germany’s largest bank, Deutsche Bank, is awaiting regulatory approval to launch digital asset custody solutions for institutional clients and corporations in Europe. The bank plans to offer initial support for Bitcoin, Ether and select stablecoins, including Circle USDC, EURC and AllUnity EUR, before expanding into tokenized assets. The bank expects to receive its license for the custody offering in October under the EU’s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) framework.
Why it matters
As one of the Financial Stability Board’s Global Systemically Important Banks, Deutsche Bank’s entry into crypto custody signals growing mainstream acceptance of digital assets. The push to pursue crypto services is expected to accelerate after MiCA reached full enforcement on July 1. The development marks the German institution’s latest push into crypto, confirming earlier reports that it was developing crypto custody services.
What to watch
Deutsche Bank plans to go live with the offering for its first clients this year, subject to completion of the applicable regulatory timeline. The bank also plans to include support for tokenized financial instruments at a later point. Other German banks, including Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and DZ Bank, have already launched similar services. How quickly Deutsche Bank expands beyond initial cryptocurrencies and whether it will issue its own stablecoin remain key questions.
