Bitwise Launches Tokenized Stock Portfolios

Bitwise uses Coinbase's tokenized stocks to build automated AI and robotics portfolios, letting eligible non-US investors self-custody assets.

The update

Bitwise Asset Management has launched automated portfolios of Coinbase’s tokenized US stocks. The new system uses a tool called Glider to automatically rebalance holdings to match preset strategies, such as the “Mag7X” and “robotics and AI leaders.” Unlike traditional funds, the assets remain in users’ non-custodial wallets, allowing eligible investors outside the United States to keep the tokens while Bitwise handles the portfolio methodology and rebalancing.

Why it matters

This development represents a shift in how investment strategies can be delivered. By combining tokenized stocks with automated rebalancing, Bitwise offers a way for investors to follow specific strategies without managing the trades themselves. The ability for non-US investors to self-custody the assets adds a layer of control and potential interoperability with decentralized finance applications, though this introduces new risks.

What to watch

Investors should monitor the eligibility requirements for non-US investors and the specific fees charged by the platform. Bitwise charges a 0.15% methodology access fee, excluding trading and Glider platform fees. The potential for these assets to be used in DeFi applications is a significant factor to consider, as it introduces additional risks beyond standard market volatility.
