Bitwise, Coinbase Launch Self-Custodied Tokenized Stock Portfolios
Bitwise and Coinbase are making it easier for global investors to own US stocks on-chain with self-custodied portfolios.

The update
Bitwise Asset Management has launched automated portfolios of Coinbase’s tokenized US stocks. The new offerings allow eligible investors outside the United States to follow preset investment strategies while retaining direct ownership of the assets in their own wallets. The initial lineup includes three strategies: the Mag7X, robotics, and AI leaders. These portfolios include Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, Tesla, and SpaceX.
Why it matters
This launch represents a significant step for tokenization, addressing a key access point for global investors seeking exposure to US markets without intermediaries. Unlike traditional funds, the tokenized stocks remain in users’ non-custodial wallets. Bitwise sets the portfolio methodology, while the Glider platform handles trades and rebalancing. This structure allows users to potentially use their holdings in DeFi applications for lending or borrowing, subject to the risks of those protocols.
What to watch
Eligibility requirements for non-US investors and the tax implications of holding tokenized stocks in a self-custody wallet are open questions. The success of this model will depend on user adoption and the continued growth of the tokenized stock market.
