Former TCU safety Jacob Fields is in jail after being charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury. The incident reportedly occurred during a locker room altercation on Aug. 13, according to court records and reporting from CBS Sports.

Fields turned himself in to Tarrant County authorities on Sunday. He was dismissed from the TCU football program on Aug. 15 for a violation of team rules. The school revoked credentials for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram after it reported on the incident.

Why it matters

Fields was a key transfer for the Horned Frogs, coming from Louisiana Tech where he was named Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2025. He was expected to replace Bud Clark in the secondary. His dismissal comes just days before TCU’s season opener against North Carolina.

What to watch

TCU coach Sonny Dykes addressed the dismissal on Thursday, calling the incident “out of character” for the team and the young man involved. The legal process for aggravated assault charges is ongoing.
