Riot Ends Active Development on 2XKO

Riot ends active development on 2XKO in December 2026, with online play continuing and refunds offered.

The update

Riot has announced that active development on its tag-team fighting game 2XKO will cease in December 2026. The final content patch is scheduled for October, after which the team will focus on bug fixes. Servers will remain online to support online play, and offline play will not be affected. The studio plans to unlock all champions and bundle most cosmetic items for a one-time purchase of $39.99.

Why it matters

This marks a significant shift in the fighting game landscape. 2XKO launched in January 2026 but failed to reach the player retention threshold necessary for long-term sustainability. The decision highlights the challenges major publishers face in sustaining fighting game communities. It also raises questions about the viability of new IP in a crowded genre.

What to watch

Watch for the community’s reaction to the end-of-life roadmap. Monitor whether other Riot projects face similar scrutiny regarding player retention. The future of online play is also a point of uncertainty, as the studio has indicated it may change if circumstances evolve.
